💛 Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Personal, Social and emotional development in the Ladybird Suite. Our focus is on helping our youngest children build secure, loving attachments that form the foundation for all future learning. Through consistent routines, gentle interactions and responsive caregiving, babies and toddlers learn to trust the adults around them and feel safe in their environment.
Our practitioners support early social skills by modelling kindness, turn taking and simple communication, while encouraging children to explore their emotions in a calm, nurturing space. Whether through shared play, comforting moments, or celebrating small achievements, we help each child develop confidence, resilience and a strong sense of belonging as they begin to understand themselves and others.

🗣️ Communication and Language

Communication and Language from the earliest months, babies and toddlers are immersed in a rich language environment where every sound, gesture and expression is valued. Our practitioners model clear, warm communication, responding sensitively to babbles, pointing, early words and non verbal cues. Through songs, stories, simple conversations and shared play, children begin to understand language, develop their listening skills and build the confidence to express themselves. We celebrate every attempt at communication, helping each child feel heard, understood and encouraged as they develop the foundations for lifelong language learning.

🧸 Physical Development

Our youngest children are supported to explore movement in a safe, stimulating environment that encourages curiosity and independence. From tummy time and crawling to early climbing and first steps, practitioners provide gentle guidance and plenty of opportunities for children to strengthen their bodies and develop coordination. Fine motor skills are nurtured through sensory play, early mark making and handling small objects. We prioritise healthy routines, including rest, nutrition and self care skills, helping each child develop confidence in their growing physical abilities.

🎨 Expressive Art and Design

Creativity begins long before children can hold a paintbrush. In the Ladybird Suite, babies and toddlers explore colour, texture, sound and movement through open ended, sensory experiences. From paint and playdough to music, dance and imaginative play, children are encouraged to experiment freely and express themselves in their own unique ways. Our practitioners support this exploration with enthusiasm and curiosity, helping children develop early creative confidence and a joyful sense of discovery.

🌍 Understanding the World

Young children learn about the world through hands on exploration and meaningful interactions with the people around them. We provide opportunities for babies and toddlers to investigate natural materials, observe changes, explore the outdoors and engage with simple cause and effect experiences. Practitioners introduce early concepts such as nature, family, community and routines through stories, sensory play and real life experiences. This helps children begin to make sense of their environment and develop a growing awareness of themselves and others.

🔢 Maths

Early maths is woven naturally into everyday play. Babies and toddlers explore early mathematical ideas through stacking, filling, emptying, sorting, matching and noticing patterns. Practitioners introduce simple language such as “more”, “big”, “small”, “one” and “another”, helping children build early number awareness and problem solving skills. Through songs, rhymes and playful interactions, children begin to develop the foundations of mathematical thinking in a fun, meaningful way.

📖 Literacy

A love of literacy begins with warm, shared moments. Our practitioners read stories, sing rhymes and explore books with children every day, helping them develop early listening and attention skills. Babies enjoy looking at pictures, turning pages and hearing familiar voices, while toddlers begin to recognise favourite stories and join in with repeated phrases. Mark making opportunities allow children to explore early writing movements, building the foundations for future reading and writing in a joyful, pressure free environment.
